waitress crush - 9 Jun 2002 - pencil
This is a from-memory sketch of a waitress from my regular bar back in the day (The Marathon on Burnside). Notice how I was too lazy to give her hands. :)

This was either the cover or a promo poster for a literary magazine I worked on at Willamette.

Alexis - 17 May 1997 - pencil
Like the caption says, she moved. I’m blaming this one on her.
flesh and bones - 5 Nov 1995 - ballpoint pen
So I’s processing this one to clean it up a bit since it was drawn on lined paper. I went to use a filter and got the weird darkle effect. Sorta reminds me of Ghost in the Shell. It took me a while to figure out that I’d done something to change the background brush color to dark grey. But it is good to know that I can use this effect in the future.

Ryonen in tights - 23 Jun 2011 - pencil
This needs cleanup, but I’m uploading it now as proof that I will be posting drawings from the 21st century. A deceptively difficult pose to attempt at my current level of proficiency.

self-portrait - 6 Oct 1997 - pencil
From my teen years. There’s a lot I didn’t get right, most noticeably the ear, but overall it’s not too far off. Unfortunately, the best selfie I ever did was lost in a move. :( It was 24x36” in conte crayon and it pretty much looked exactly like me, but bigger.

“Sara” - 25 July 1999 - pencil
This is an ex-girlfriend (we keep in touch) from way back. It’s meant to be pretty loose and fuzzy around the edges. Also, like it says, I was drunk at the time. Afterwards it was obvious certain things were ‘off’ (her left arm being the most egregious), but I don’t like to give my works the George Lucas treatment — to go back and alter something once I’ve finished it. Although after I scanned it I did do some photoshoppery on it to make it pop a bit.
